In the winter, for about five months or from January to May, the lake freezes over but the water is so clear that, from the surface, you can see an astounding 130 feet below you. Transparent and shining in a turquoise color, these masses of broken ice look like shards of glass rising into the sky. They are caused by the slow and unequal pressure in the main body of the packed ice as well as by the unequal structure and temperature.

Checked out my local Unitarian Universalist congregation today. It was awesome. The “sermon” was on Unitarian Universalist principles in the Constitution. And in two weeks, it will be “Feminism today”. Really excited about this. My husband could see the difference in my mood after attending the UU meeting(happy and downright bubbly) as opposed to whenever I’ve come home from LDS church meetings(depressed and pissed off). The fact that they had donuts has sold him on it. My daughter enjoyed her class. My son still doesn’t like going into nursery(I think he’s like me and has social anxiety…he doesn’t really like new situations or new people until he has been around them for awhile).
Their pianist was very talented. VERY. And their choir was great. I wanted to cry the whole time because I felt so at home and like I belonged which is something I’ve never felt in the LDS church. We’ll definitely be going back.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is “never get involved in a land war in Asia” - but only slightly less well-known is this: “Never go against a Sicilian when pants are on the line”!
Are you a Mormon? Feminist? Interested in participating in some civil disobedience to fight for gender equality at church? Then join the Facebook group “All Enlisted”. This is a call to ACTION!

Listening to Eddie South on Spotify. I remember reading something on Andrew Bird years ago about South being an influence and I put one of his albums on my Amazon wishlist and then took it off when it went out of print and became completely unavailable. Listening now, oooooh boy, I can REALLY hear the influence in Mr. Bird’s violin playing. And I mean REALLY. Excellent.
